For adventurers there is rock climbing at Symonds Yat, numerous walking and bike-riding trails leading directly into the woods, and canoeing or kayaking on the River Wye. If you are wanting a slower pace there are plenty of local castles (Raglan, Chepstow, Goodrich) as well as arboretums and nature reserves. Also, there are fishing lakes within a couple of miles.
